Photos and story from May 14, 2003 Community Meeting
At the South County Government Center, 32 people met to hear speakers talk on the Off Leash Dog Area to be built at Grist Mill Park. Karl Moody, one of the founders of Mount Vernon Area DOG, welcomed them and told them the story of how MVADOG was started. Next he showed a video of urban dog parks around the USA, including one in Arlington, Virginia and another in California which cost $200,000. He then introduced Chris Robichaux, founder of Mason District Dog, who gave a very interesting talk on how their dog park was built and he invited everyone to come visit it. They will be having a doggie picnic on June 21st at their dog park and everyone is invited. Chris gratiously answered many questions from the audience about the funding for the dogpark.
Monique Moody and Janina Plinsky handled out literature, begged for donations, and got people to sign in. Renee Priore passed out sugar cookies in the shape of dog biscuits on which people could write the name of their dogs in edible ink.
The Vernon Voice sent a reporter who offered to publicize any upcoming events for the dog park.
Here are a few of the early pictures of the meeting.

The night was a success. The turnout was more than we had expected and we added to the coffers of the Mount Vernon Area Dog. Mount Vernon Area DOG's next event will be a social at Grist Mill Park, site of the dog park, on June 21st.
If you are a member of a community association, please email us with the name of a contact. We would love to come and speak and play the video, if time permits. Visibility is the key.
We will be adding more pictures and information within the next couple of days.
