Cake provided by the Park Authority with our logo on it. It was delicious and there was little left over.

Despite the rain there were about 75 people at the Grand Opening and about 20 dogs of all sizes. Gerry Connelly, Chairman, Board of Supervisors, and Gerry Hyland, Supervisor, Mount Vernon District addressed the crowd. Connelly reminded the crowd that he championed dog parks when he was on the Board of Supervisors. Gil McCutcheon, Mount Vernon Representative, Fairfax County Park Authority Board, Mike Kane, Director, FCPA, and Tim White, COO, FCPA, were also in attendance. Thank you gifts made from the wood of trees that had been fallen to make way for our dog park were given to Connelly, Hyland, McCutcheon, Kane (for the FCPA), and Joe Nilson, the man most responsible for our dog park.

We will need volunteers to become Park volunteers who will monitor the workings of our OLDA. The FCPA will provide training and t-shirts so that you will be an official volunteer. If you can commit to being at the park with or without your dog at certain times, please let me know --email.
