July 13 - The Trip Home - Sioux City, IA

After driving from North Platte, NE to Omaha, we spent the night in the Best Western. Tired, we ordered room service from a local restaurant. It wouldn't be long until we were cooking our own meals.

We decided to do the Sioux City, Iowa, volksmarch the next day. It was recommended by Ken Wilson. It had the bonus of starting at the Sergeant Floyd Riverboat Museum. For those of you who are not familar with me, I am a fan of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery. Sergeant Floyd was the only person from the the Corps to die during the two year trek and he died of an appendicitis. There is a monument to him that is visible on the route to the Museum. It sits on a bluff overlooking the river.

The Museum is very interesting. There is a life size recontructed human image of Sergeant Floyd of who there are not pictures or drawings. There are many souvenirs which I added to my collection.

The walk is along the Missouri River on a hiker-biker trail. Again the day was very hot and humid. And the trail was out in the open for the most part. Merry Weather, in her stroller due to the heat, and I walked from tree clump to tree clump. I did get some interesting pictures of the river. The river in the time of Lewis and Clark was no where near as pristine as this popular motor boat area. During the L & C trip through here, there were trees floating in the current.

This was our last volksmarch of the trip. Tomorrow was a day of packing and moving on.
