Flagg Ranch Resort

After a straight up and straight down trip from Driggs, we picked up the motorhome in a Rube Goldberg operation. We stopped at Eagle Rent a Car, the Cruise America dealer, unloaded the car, and left Emilie and Merry Weather to put the things away. Jayme and I drove the rental car to the airport, which is the accepted place for people to leave their auto. Eagle Rent A Car picked us up and drove us back to the motorhome.

While driving back, I asked about the homes in Jackson. The average real estate transaction last year was $900,000. Many of the properties sold around there are for $5 -10 million. Of course, they have more than a quarter of an acre of land. A one bedroom apartment goes for $160,000. Most people live in Driggs, Victor, and Teton Village, ID --- argh -- that trip over the mountain twice a day!!!!

Emilie had put everything away and we were ready to go. After a quick stop at Albertsons (a grocery store) and Burger King, we headed north to Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone, and our site at Flagg Ranch Resort. The motorhome drove like a dream. Be prepared to hear nothing but praise for this little motorhome -- I just loved it.

Our first stop was to see the Gros Ventre Slide. A side of the mountain had slid down and dammed up the Snake River. I wasn't really sure how to get there and subsequently we didn't drive far enough. So much for that.

While trying to get back to the John D. Rockefeller Memorial Highway, we passed buffalo on a ranch. While I stayed in the car and kept Merry Weather quiet, Jayme and Emilie took pictures of the buffalo. I did get one picture when the buffalo crossed the street to my side.

We also stopped at the Cunningham Cabin. This cabin was built by the first ranger in the Grand Tetons National Park.

This cabin has the most beautiful view of the Tetons. Except for the fact that it had no amenities such as caulking between the logs, windows, and a door, it would have been nice to wake up every morning and view those mountains.

At almost every lookout, we stopped and took pictures of the Tetons.

They are so beautiful. I would think that I was in heaven if I could wake up and see those mountains every day -- in the summer that is.

We got to the campground -- Flagg Ranch Resort about 4PM.

Sue, Ralph, and Billy weren't there yet. We set up camp and checked out the resort hotel and the campground facilities. We also took time to arrange the motorhome for best use.

Though we had bought an equipment kit (dishes, cups, silverware, pots and pans)from the motorhome rental place and breakfast and snack food at Albertsons, we didn't buy any food for dinner.

When the Mesicks hadn't arrived by 6PM, we unhooked the motorhome and headed to Colter Bay for dinner. Colter Bay has a souvenir shop that we all stopped into prior to dinner. We ate dinner and then headed back to Flagg Ranch.

We had no TV, no pool, and no cell phone access. We had bought many teen magazines for Jayme and Emilie and I had other reading materials.

About 10PM, the Mesicks pulled in. They had arrived while we were in Colter Bay and had gone to the Flagg Ranch Lodge for dinner.

Billy Mesick is a wonderful little 6 year-old boy. We were entertained by him while his folks hooked up their motorhome.

The Mesicks had a TV and a VCR. Guess where Jayme spent the night!
