Trails:

There are two walk trails, but only one event stamp: Wood Walk and Road Walk. The Wood Walk Trail is 10KM and rated 2. It is mostly on natural surfaces. It is not suitable for wheelchairs and may cause great difficulty for strollers. The trail may be more difficult after heavy rains.
The Road Walk Trail is 10KM and rated 1+. It has been designed to provide a paved trail for inclement weather. It is also for those who want to be near the woods, but not as near to insects as on the Wood Walk. The Road Walk is mostly on hardtop and is suitable for strollers, though wheelchairs may have difficulty.

Award:

There is no special award for either trail this year. The 2001 award -- a patch depicting the Maryland State Insect -- the Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly. (shown at right) is available. IVV Credit only is $3.00.

Special Conditions:

These events are not recommended if winter or icy conditions exist in the area. During part of September, there are some managed hunting areas in the park. When walking then, please wear orange or other bright clothing. There is no hunting on Sunday, Watch for ticks in the summer; wear and carry tick repellent. Restrooms are available on the trail and are marked on the route directions. The Cedarville Grocery has deli sandwiches, hot and cold drinks, and other snacks at exceptionally reasonable prices.

Directions:

From the North & West and from Virginia: Take the Washington Beltway(I-95) to exit 7A, MD Route 5 South. Drive 12 miles. Turn left onto Cedarville Rd. *Drive approximately 4.1 miles. Just after crossing the railroad tracks, the Cedarville Grocery will be on the left at the corner of Ashbox Rd.

From the East (alternate North): Take US Route 301 South to where it joins MD Route 5 South. Drive approximately 2 miles. Turn left onto Cedarville Rd. Continue from * above.

From the South: Follow U S Route 301 North through Waldorf,MD. Upon leaving city, you will pass the Pinefield Shopping Center at MD Route 205. Approximately 1/2 mile later, turn right onto Cedarville Rd. Continue from * above.
